About this book
Jan Vedder's Wife is by Amelia E. Barr. The contents list names, among others, chapters titled A Little Cloud in the Sky, The Desolated Home, The Man at Death's Door and Snorro Is Wanted. Peter did not name Margaret's tocher; he said he would give Margaret a house with all needful plenishing and promised also to pay all the wedding expenses. Jan was too proud in his poverty to ask for his right, and when he suggested that as a house-holder he should have more wages, Peter would not see the justice of any such addition.
The twelfth of August is "the fisherman's foy" in Shetland. Peter was walking home one night, a little later than usual, and he met Suneva upon the moor. Tulloch was still in his chair, and his three servants stood beside him; the bread was broken and, with prayers and tears, the little company ate it together.
