About this book

Left Guard Gilbert is by Ralph Henry Barbour, whose other titles named on the title page include Left End Edwards, Left Tackle Thayer and Full-Back Foster. E. C. Caswell illustrated it. The contents list chapters such as "The Boy from Kansas," "In Number Six," "The First Game," "Fighting Fire," "Southby Yields" and "Dropped from the Team."

In one passage Don Gilbert is late and has an injured hand, and a boy called Tim asks how it happened; Don says it came from a railway wreck on the way. In another, the Brimfield side takes the field with Edwards at left end, Thayer at left tackle and Gilbert at left guard, and Harry Walton is among the substitutes. The passages on the game follow plays and signals, with Carmine at quarter.
