About this book
The book Lest We Forget carries the subtitle Chicago's Awful Theater Horror and is presented by the survivors and rescuers, with an introduction by Bishop Fallows. The book describes itself as embracing, among others, a flash-light sketch of the holocaust, detailed narratives by participants in the horror, heroic work of rescuers and memorable fires of the past. Picture captions include, among others, In front of the theater at the time of the fire, December 30th, 1903, 4 P.M., and Front view of the Iroquois Theater.
A section headed Poem by a Child Victim gives a poem written by Walter Bissinger, a boy victim of the Iroquois Theater fire, fifteen years old. A chapter headed Stories and Narratives of the Holocaust gives a story told by Mrs. Emma Schweitzler and Mrs. Eva Katherine Clapp Gibson, of Chicago. The text says it would seem impossible that the United States could forget for many generations the Iroquois disaster, and that it must result in a final reform of all arrangements looking to the safety of theater goers.
