About this book
Life History and Ecology of the Five-Lined Skink, Eumeces fasciatus is a work by Henry S. Fitch. The introduction describes the common five-lined skink (or common blue-tailed skink) as a small woodland lizard, abundantly and widely distributed over the eastern United States. The text says the skin is tight fitting and relatively thick, stiffened by a bony armor, and that a small bony plate or osteoderm underlies each scale.
Under Relationships, the text says Eumeces is a widespread genus occurring in the New World in southern Canada and southward into Costa Rica, and that the greatest number of forms is in Mexico. Individual notes record that one female was caught at the same place on both occasions and in a little less than a year grew to small adult size. A list of references names, among others, Alligators and lizards in Mississippi and Herpetology of the Columbia, South Carolina, region.
