About this book
Love's Meinie presents three lectures on Greek and English birds, with the contents naming the robin, the swallow, and the dabchicks as lecture subjects. The discussion of nomenclature complains of confusion in modern science and of the difficulty of finding a useful fact among the names. The lecturer has thirteen plates of birds of prey in hand and questions whether students should first be allowed a shared name reflecting their resemblance.
The account calls Stellaris much the brightest in color of three and reports uncertainty about the reason for the name. The water rail entry questions a collected foreign name and suggests that confusion between birds affects several popular names.
