About this book
Lucian the Dreamer is by J. S. Fletcher. An introductory note calls the book the study of an artistic temperament in a generation not so far removed from our own as the hurried events of the last two decades would make it appear, the generation which fought in the Boer War. The note says Mr. Fletcher has told the life story of a boy, a thinker rather than a doer, Lucian the Dreamer.
Lucian's eyes wander to a table spread for high tea, where a cold ham of generous proportions figured at one side and a round of cold roast-beef at the other. Sprats asks Lucian whether he is living rather carelessly and extravagantly. A speaker accuses Lucian of belittling everything to the level of Hooliganism, and Lucian retorts "What is it but Hooliganism?"
