About this book
Man Made is introduced as a story that comes to grips with an age-old question, what is soul, and where, and that postulates an age-new answer. The narrator gives the name Treb Hawley and speaks of always being interested in astronautics from childhood. The narrator recalls an accident at fifty, when a six-limbed primate attacked on Planet 12 of the Centauri System and left the left side badly mangled.
Surgical Corps operated within an hour, and an excellent prosthetic job followed the removal of the left leg and arm. Erics goes on with a parable in which Achilles realized that not one splinter of the original ship remained, and the parable asks whether this was a new ship.
