About this book
Martians Never Die describes a bodyguard that converts an enemy, with no bark, bite or sting. The dialogue explains that stellar currents permit a trip back to Earth only at the yearly waiting time, and rejects travel in the fourth dimension. Stern says his efforts interested several wealthy men in the machine, sparing Dr. Curtis the need to bear the whole expense himself.
Schaughtowl, the monster addressed by Curtis, brightens in a darkened room, its skin giving off an eerie, luminous glow. Curtis puts his hand on what would have been Schaughtowl's neck, and the creature's loose skin and body respond with joyous movements. Stern experiences numbness creeping from his palm along his right arm, with a prickly sensation appearing in his right leg.
