The opening asks what the deadly thing is that must be sealed away, forever locked in buried concrete, a thing or an idea. The text says that out of the twenty only one managed to escape the planet, merely by walking up to the crowded ticket window at one of the rocket ports and buying passage to Earth. The text says the fugitive was the last to leave and stayed well away from the others, fearful that if he should touch or brush up against someone, his identity might be recognized.
One passage mentions the lights of Red Mountain and a power plant that was a big dome-shaped building surrounded by a high wall. One speaker asks how a robot managed to break out of his cell and get to the power source on the ship, and Jordan answers that he did not break out and that Jordan let him out. The text says Jordan wanted to explain but could not find the words to tell what he had learned about the robots and their unity with men.
