About this book
The Victor is by Bryce Walton, illustrated by Kelly Freas. The text says that under the new system of the Managerials, the fight was not for life but for death. Charles Marquis has a fraction of a minute in which to die, and hangs from the tubular beams of alloydem steel, five thousand feet above the tiers and walkways below.
Marquis seeks the protection of personal darkness behind closed eyelids as the monorail car moves faster and faster through the high clean air. The text says Marquis had worked with the Underground against the System for a long time. The Manager tells Marquis that political prisoners are becoming more scarce all the time and that from now on he will be No. 5274. A character enters an air-lock, shuts the first door when the air-pressure is right, and turns the other wheel so that the outer lock door swings outward.
