About this book

The account of Faraday's working life describes a passionate master whose disposition made the journeyman bookbinder very uncomfortable. Faraday longed to leave trade and, encouraged by Mr. Dance, wrote to Sir Humphry Davy with notes taken at Davy's last four lectures as proof of his earnestness.

An experimental account describes glass suspended on a fine thread near a strong magneto-electric pole being repelled when the pole becomes magnetic, with repulsion continuing until magnetism ceases. A laboratory note records a very feeble spark on breaking contact when a bundle of wires connected the electro-motor, with a noticeably better spark when the wires were held together.
