About this book
Mind and Hand: Manual Training the Chief Factor in Education is by Charles H. Ham and is the third edition of Manual Training, the Solution of Social and Industrial Problems. The preface to the third edition says the work has been before the public of this country, England, and all English-speaking countries since 1886. The text says Layard found great treasures of art in the palaces of Sennacherib and other Assyrian monarchs, among them vases, jars, bronzes and glass-bottles.
The text says that nothing happens without due cause, and that the misfortunes suffered by the people of Europe during the Middle Ages did not fall upon them from the clouds. The contents list for Chapter VI, headed The Wood-Turning Laboratory, names, among others, The Potter's Wheel of the Ancients and the Turning-lathe, George III. at the Lathe, and Maudsley's Slide-rest and the Revolution it wrought.
