About this book
Colonel James A. Moss of the United States Army wrote this second, revised edition of his Manual of Military Training primarily for cadets in military schools and colleges and for company officers of the National Army, National Guard and Officers' Reserve Corps. The title page says it was officially adopted by 105 military schools, and it states its aim as efficient companies and officers qualified for their duties in time of war.
The text is arranged in numbered paragraphs. Sampled passages cover hand signals for leaders, including how to indicate range, and flag signals carried by company musicians. Further numbered paragraphs deal with fieldworks, communicating and cover trenches, dummy trenches and the usual space allowed per man, which is one yard.
