About this book
Word Study and English Grammar, by Frederick W. Hamilton, is described as a primer of information about words, their relations and their uses. The preface says the volume is a compilation from various sources. The preface says the books prepared for school use are too academic and too little related to the specific needs of the apprentice.
The section on nouns defines a noun as a word used as the name of anything that can be thought of, and gives John, boy, paper, cold, fear and crowd as examples. The plural of a noun is generally formed by adding s to the singular, with a small number of nouns forming their plurals differently, such as mouse, mice and child, children. The text says that continual should not be confused with continuous: continual means frequently repeated, and continuous means uninterrupted. A list of related titles names, among others, Typographic Design in Advertising by Harry L. Gage and Making Dummies and Layouts by Harry L. Gage.
