A small monkey unsettles Minnie's household when Captain Lee brings Jacko home as a present for his niece. Minnie provides pieces of carpeting for his bed, and warm clothes help him cope with the cold. His clever fingers and restless curiosity soon cause trouble. After he finds a way to undo his chain, he imitates the cook's work by spreading blacking over the kitchen table and chairs.
Madeline Leslie places these comic incidents beside questions about kindness and the responsibilities of keeping animals. Minnie objects when Jacko frightens a kitten, while Mrs. Lee weighs his amusing tricks against the burden they place on the servants.
