The preface says that little attempt has been made to change the text or floor plans in the revised edition, while nearly all the elevations have been redrawn. An economical cottage is described as having ample, convenient apartments for a medium-sized family and as suitable for either a village or a more rural location.
The practical advice recommends openings for regular sizes of sash, blinds, and doors to save time and trouble when obtaining seasoned, well-made stock. An attic arrangement provides just standing room in the center.
