About this book

Pulled from the trenches of the Western Front, Brigadier-General Richard Hannay is handed one of the war's most delicate assignments: to pose as a conscientious objector and burrow into a nest of German agents working inside Britain. The disguise galls him, but it carries him from a pacifist commune in the Cotswolds to the Scottish moors, the Isle of Skye, and finally the Swiss Alps in pursuit of the elusive spy Moxon Ivery. Old comrades return, and a courageous young woman, Mary Lamington, shares the danger. John Buchan borrows his title and his hero's steadiness from The Pilgrim's Progress, giving this 1919 adventure a moral weight beneath the chase. The third Hannay novel is free to read in PDF and EPUB.
