About this book
Mrs. Grey's strange silence, by Ruth Lamb, concerns an elderly couple seldom seen apart among the guests at a Swiss mountain pension. The visitors learn from the register that the couple are husband and wife, entered as Mr. and Mrs. Grey of Lindham, England. Mr. and Mrs. Grey attract curiosity because, though always together at meals and other social occasions, the husband does all the talking.
Conny insists that she and another listener heard Mrs. Grey crying, but Janet cannot deny the crying and quietly withdraws from her sister's tale telling. The narrative says that Conny acknowledged her fault to her companions at the pension and won their respect by doing so.
