About this book

Mrs. Lirriper's Legacy by Charles Dickens has a speaker who finds it pleasant to drop into an easy-chair, though a little palpitating what with trotting up-stairs and what with trotting down. A speaker says the Major is still a fixture in the Parlours, that Jemmy is of boys the best and brightest, and that Jemmy and the Major make Locomotives out of parasols, broken iron pots and cotton-reels.

Asked laughing "What appointment am I to hold in this undertaking gentlemen?", Jemmy hugs the speaker round the neck and says "You shall be the Public Gran." A gentleman asks Madame Lirrwiper whether she has no son, no nephew, no godson, no frrwiend, no acquaintance of any kind in Frrwance, and a speaker says that to her certain knowledge she has no relation or friend. Jemmy says that the lovers fled to London and were united at the altar of Saint Clement's Danes.
