About this book
My Shipmate, Columbus is by Stephen Marlowe. A teaser in the front says we are taught that the earth is round and that Columbus discovered America, but maybe we take too much on faith, and it promises the story of a man who can give the straight facts.
In one passage a student named Danny, a sophomore transfer from a big city college to a small town college, wishes he had kept quiet about Columbus, and a student called Groves teases him on the way to the dorm. The house-mother gives him a telegram and warns that it may be bad news. In another passage a man in a crowded room says he was drunk when he said the world was round, a girl in a shawl tries to pull him to his feet and says papa sails tomorrow, and the room laughs. Another passage has Danny fighting a large man named Pietro.
