About this book
My Trip Around the World, with the subtitle August, 1895-May, 1896, is by Eleonora Hunt. The contents list names parts called From Japan to China, India, Egypt, From Egypt to France and Homeward Bound, among others. The introduction says the writer hesitates to place the manuscript in print, and that it has been a struggle in declining days, with impaired health and imperfect vision.
The writer says that they found the handsomest kimonas, the finest cloisonais in Yokohama, and the best carving in ivory in Tokio. An epitaph inscribed on a tomb is given in the text: Place naught but one green herb above my head; This alone befits the poor and lonely dead. Beautiful pink pearls are shown to the travellers, and the writer regrets not buying some of them, saying they never found them so perfect after leaving Delhi. The text says the works of each artist are removed to the galleries of the Louvre ten years after his death.
