About this book
Nancy McVeigh of the Monk Road is by R. Henry Mainer. A dedication gives these few stories of a good old woman to the memory of A. R. S. M., who sat beside the writer while the stories were written. The contents list names, among others, The Woman of the Inn, John Keene's Education and The Kerry Dancers.
Mr. Conors observes that “It's a power o' interest ye hev paid that old miser, John Keene, since McVeigh took over the tavern.” Nancy McVeigh says that her interest falls due this month. Mistress McVeigh tells of lecturing Green every day about his sinful habits, and Green answers “Never fear, Mistress McVeigh, I'm solid forever now.” A man finds it exceedingly warm on an unsheltered platform, shifts his raincoat to his other arm and seeks a shaded place against the railing, wishing to think quietly.
