About this book
The book is an account of a journey to the summit of Mont Blanc, made in July, 1819. A note says the account of the journey was written a few days after the journey, while the author was confined to his chamber by the inconveniences he had suffered.
The account says Mont Blanc is situated amidst some of the highest mountains of Savoy, forming a part of the great chain of the Alps. The account places the valley of Chamouny on the north side of the mountain, at its foot, sixteen leagues south from Geneva. The account describes a night of cold, with the thermometer several degrees below freezing and the night seeming to last at least twenty hours. The account tells of a lost path, and of the guides following the track of two chamois.
