No Moving Parts is by Murray F. Yaco, illustrated by Grayam. A man named Hansen sits at the control board in the single building on a Communications Relay Station when the emergency light flashes on for the first time in two hundred years. Hansen tells Captain Fromer that it was he who sent the emergency call, and Fromer answers that he did no such thing.
The emergency light flashes on for the second time in two hundred years, and Hansen calls the Euclid Queen to speak to Captain Fromer. Hansen says, holding his thumb in the Rule Book, that the Relay Station Attendant contacts the Captain personally during all emergencies. A navigator says a Gypsy is a generally vagrant, dirty, thieving, clever scoundrel who will not work, and who has absolutely no respect for order or authority. A character named Candle says prophetically that a certain intense curiosity turns you inside out, devours you and ruins you for orthodoxy.
