About this book
Norman Ten Hundred is A. Stanley Blicq's record of the 1st (Service) Battalion of the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry, printed in Guernsey in 1920. Blicq dedicates it to Mrs. P. Ereaux and to George W. Clarke, with whom he recalls the days when they marched the Long Trail together.
The text describes camp life in wet conditions: water is sometimes taken from a muddy puddle in the road, and each tent gets a pit two feet deep inside and a wall of similar height outside as shelter. A passage on parades says the battalion visibly impressed the G.O.C., 29th Division, asks whether its steadiness or its quick handling of arms won approval, and speaks of the battalion's fame at Bourne Park. Another passage names Rues Vertes, Marcoing and Masnières, and says the 88th Brigade formed a line from Marcoing towards Masnières.
