About this book
The 28th is a record of war service with the Australian Imperial Force, 1915 to 1919, by Colonel H. B. Collett. This is Volume I, covering Egypt, Gallipoli, Lemnos Island and the Sinai Peninsula. An illustration is captioned as the square within the walls of Saladin's citadel on 30 August 1915, with the Moqattam Hills and Napoleon's Fort in the distance.
A dated diary of the battalion's movements lists the march to the Citadel of Cairo on 17 August, embarkation at Alexandria on the Ivernia, arrival off Lemnos Island, entry into Mudros Bay and landing at Williams' Pier. It also notes a visit by Lord Kitchener and a blizzard on the peninsula. Elsewhere the text names the members of one squad and records a change in command of the 7th Brigade, and a long roll lists men by number and name.
