About this book
Old Houses in Holland has text and illustrations by Sydney R. Jones, with some additional plates in colour after other artists. The list of illustrations names, among others, a Seventeenth-century Room from Dordrecht, South Holland, and a Fireplace in the Bricklayers' Guild, Amsterdam.
The text says the heavy pediments to the windows are conspicuous, as are the many stone details. The text says two panels are inscribed with ANNO 1662. The text says a recess is sometimes merely covered by a curtain that may be drawn to and fro, but generally a wooden door was fitted to the opening. The text says some doors, with one or two panels, are quite plainly made, while others, highly decorated with carvings and metalwork, furnish examples of beautiful craftsmanship.
