About this book
Ole Bull: A Memoir is written by Sara Chapman Thorp Bull. The author's note says that the aim has been to use incidents, criticisms, and tributes which brought out characteristic traits, and that many poems and tributes, and much musical criticism, have been necessarily omitted for want of space. A story in the book has peasants hear fiddle strains from the mountains, and the player proves to be the little Ole, utterly unconscious of all the excitement and terror he had caused in the neighborhood.
In a letter from Georgia, the violinist writes to his brother Edward, February 6, 1853, that he is engaged simultaneously in laying out five villages and contracting with the Government for the casting of cannon. The index entry for Ole Bull lists his birthplace and his parents, and notes that he plays in orchestra when nine years old and was taught by Lundholm.
