C. J. Box’s book “Open Season” is the first in the Joe Pickett series. It introduces us to Twelve Sleep, Wyoming, a community where almost everyone hunts, and Joe Pickett, the new game warden. He is upset when he discovers the dead body of a nearby hunting outfitter in his backyard. As Joe looks into the killings, the narrative progresses and he finds that an endangered species is residing in his woodpile. He risks losing everything he values more the closer he gets to the truth.
