About this book
The preface says inquiries about a more accessible permanent form came while a series of articles on the money trust was running in Harper’s Weekly. The introductory discussion connects the possibility of efficiency through intensive development of the individual with a wider study of efficiency and a path toward industrial democracy.
The financial argument attributes the power and growth of financial oligarchs to their use of other people's savings and quick capital. The discussion of life insurance says J. P. Morgan & Co. and associates exert influence in two of the three great companies without any individual investment whatsoever. A bond-sale account describes a prospective purchaser filling in the desired amount, signing a name, sealing the bid and awaiting the day of the award.
