About this book
Readings in Money and Banking was selected and adapted by Chester Arthur Phillips and dated 1921. The title page lists him as an assistant professor of economics and of banking, and the book is made of readings.
One passage looks at wages and prices in a wartime period of the 1860s, when about a million men were enrolled in the army and navy, and argues that wages rose later than prices. Another quotes Irving Fisher on the equation of exchange, and a writer who says the word money is used so loosely that agreement on price theories needs agreement on its meaning first. A later passage asks whether national banks can lend to farmers, and answers that they may, though not on real estate security.
