About this book

A son surrounded by peril confesses his wrongdoing and asks his father for help in escaping ruin. The father says the people have paid the debts twice and that Pitt fears a third request, proposing marriage to a cousin in Germany. A bride is lured from the halls of Brunswick and her fathers' hearth, with the account describing short-lived pleasures and the swift arrival of cares.

The argument about tyranny compares restrained river water breaking through opposition with a political power that may govern for a time before nature overwhelms tyrants. A section heading lists the distinction between tyrants and kings and government instituted by the people for their own good among its subjects. A parliamentary parody orders that strangers receive seats after the day's adjournment until the following sitting, under a chamber heading called the House of Tops.
