About this book

Poems by Ralph Waldo Emerson is a Household Edition whose title page lists the years 1867, 1876, 1883, 1895, 1904 and 1911. Its contents list a Preface and a Biographical Sketch, then the poems in two parts, Poems and May-Day and Other Pieces.

The contents include Each and All, The Problem, Uriel, The Sphinx, The Rhodora, The Snow-Storm, Woodnotes, Monadnoc, Merlin, Brahma and Concord Hymn. The sketch records that in 1832 Emerson resigned after explaining his objections, sailed for Europe, sought out Carlyle in the hills of the Scottish Border, and in the autumn of 1834 moved to Concord. In one poem ten scholars camp among tall trees and lie on hemlock boughs, and another is dated Williamstown, Vermont, 1 June 1831.
