About this book

Prairie Gold is a volume by Iowa authors and artists, credited to the Iowa Press and Authors' Club. The preface says the volume, from the land of the singing corn, is offered to the public by the Iowa Press and Authors' Club as the first bit of co-operative work done by Iowa writers. The title page credits jacket and frontispiece by J. N. Darling and decorations by Harriet Macy and Louise Orwig. A character named Conrad throws down his mallet, says he can do no more and that it is finished, and turning to Ruth demands what she thinks of it.

Word is brought to Nicholas Asche, leader of the Meeting, that Roger Barnes is about to erect a graven image among the low headstones of the burial grounds. In a scene with a horse, Nourmahal puts her foot into Nasrulla's hand and he lifts her into the saddle. The text names Dr. Frank L. McVey as president of the University of North Dakota and Welker Given as being of Clinton, Iowa.
