About this book
Robert Boyle is a biography by Flora Masson. In a letter to his brother Broghill, Robert Boyle explains that the necessities of his affairs call him away into France, with Parliament’s permission. The account says it is not known whether Robert Boyle went as far as Geneva or saw his old governour, but records a brief visit.
Boyle is elected President of the Royal Society on St. Andrew’s Day 1680, at an anniversary meeting followed by a dinner attended by a large gathering of philosophers. Boyle declines the presidency because of an insuperable objection to tests and oaths, takes legal advice, and writes to his old assistant Hooke about the matter.
