About this book
A shared interest in Thoreau first brought Alexander H. Japp into contact with Robert Louis Stevenson, who had written an essay on Thoreau, and that acquaintance underlies this book, whose second edition appeared in 1905. Japp combines a record of Stevenson's life, from childhood and heredity to his travels and the Vailima letters, with an estimate of his work as storyteller, fabulist and dramatist, and with chapters on how critics have judged him. It prints previously unpublished letters from Stevenson, some in facsimile.
