About this book

Rollo in Geneva, by Jacob Abbott, has a title page dated 1867. A list of principal persons names Rollo, twelve years old; Mr. and Mrs. Holiday, his father and mother, travelling in Europe; his younger brother Thanny; his cousin Jane; and Mr. George, a young gentleman who is Rollo's uncle. The front matter lists the Rollo volumes, from Rollo on the Atlantic to Rollo in Rome.

The contents begin with The Fame of Geneva, Planning, The Ride to Geneva and The Town. One passage says English speakers should give the great Swiss mountain's name its plain English sound, not the French one, and then returns to the reasons Geneva became celebrated. In another, the party stops on a bridge to hear a band playing on a small islet while Rollo and Lucia watch the clear water run beneath. A boating passage has Rollo and a Swiss boy rowing along grassy banks with willows.
