About this book

Same old Bill, eh Mable! is by Edward Streeter, who is named as the author of Dere Mable and Thats me all over, Mable. The preface says that the rightful place for a preface is at the end of a book or, better still, the scrap basket. The preface says that not for one moment has there been any thought of making light of that splendid, almost foolhardy, bravery which has characterized the American soldier. A first-person speaker says that they got out in the country and marched till his pack gained a hundred and fifty pounds and his tongue was lying on his chest.

The speaker says that the French seem glad to see them but cant express themselves very well. The speaker says that the machine guns sounded like a riveting contest in a shipyard, and that somebody had marked the place up with tape like a tennis court. The speaker had a little rip in his pants that he had not had time to sew up, with just his knee sticking through.
