About this book
The book describes fur-bearing animals, their nature, habits and distribution, together with practical methods for capturing them. The trapping instructions explain that most animals caught in traps are drawn by food placed so that reaching for it brings a foot into the trap. The advice on enclosures recommends, as a rule, making as little disturbance as possible and preserving a natural appearance.
The instructions describe setting a trap without bait in an animal's trail or at its den when an animal cannot be induced to approach bait. The advice on steel traps says that neat setting and leaving everything natural are, as a rule, associated with the greatest success. The account of stretching boards specifies beveled sides with thin, round, smooth edges.
