About this book
Fox Trapping is a book of instruction telling how to trap, snare, poison and shoot, edited by A. R. Harding. The contents list chapters headed, among others, Baits and Scents, Snow Set, Trapping Red Fox, Wire and Twine Snare, Fox Ranches and Steel Traps. One writer says he believes in scent, because if there's a heavy rain storm it takes the scent from the bait.
The text says a fox can smell only one thing at a time, and that if the scent is stronger than human scent, they will not smell the human scent. One writer says he uses pure skunk glands and pure strained honey for fall trapping the fox, and specifies clover or flower honey, not sugar fed honey. Another writer says he boiled the trap in weak lye and then daubed it over with fresh cow manure. The text on a corral for foxes says that during the months preceding the killing time, the food for the foxes is placed near the site of the corral, in order to accustom the animals to coming to that locality, and also to tame them.
