About this book
Scotland Yard, subtitled The Methods and Organisation of the Metropolitan Police, is a book by George Dilnot. The contents list names chapters called The Silent Machine, Matters of Organisation, The Real Detective, Finger-Prints and The Black Museum, among others. The text says the Henry system has practically ousted Bertillonage in every civilised country. The text says that Sir Edward, fourteen years ago, resigned his Indian post to become Assistant-Commissioner in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department.
The text says a corps of expert photographers, equipped with the latest appliances, is attached to the department, and that one room is entirely devoted to a powerful lantern apparatus by which every photograph may be thrown up to a hundred times its normal size. The text says there is a Committee of Appeal at Scotland Yard, to which most cases of this kind are referred, and that it heard no fewer than 1,648 cases during 1913.
