Streight grunts that three more of them will fill the tanks, and Ken grins that if three will fill their tanks, sure. The idea of an underwater craft for the pursuit of killer whales had been scoffed at by the majority of the Alaska Whaling Company's officials, but the Narwhal after her first two months of service had decisively proved her worth.
Ken's guards grip him more firmly and guide him forward and downward to a smooth black floor of soil, where scores of large, placid eyes stare at him from slowly undulating, brown-skinned bodies packed close about him. Ken unhesitatingly places a finger on the left one, Beddoes turns and opens it, and it is the smaller pebble.
