About this book
Select Speeches of Kossuth, credited to Lajos Kossuth, is condensed and abridged, with Kossuth's express sanction, by Francis W. Newman. The preface says nothing appears in history similar to the enthusiasm roused by Kossuth in nations foreign to him, except perhaps the kindling for the First Crusade by the voice of Peter the Hermit.
The text has the clause that the house of Lorraine-Hapsburg, as perjured in the sight of God and man, has forfeited its right to the Hungarian throne. The text says it was mankind which marched, and still it passed unnoticed and unknown. The text says weaker hearts may well ask, What good is it to warn us of a fatality which we cannot escape.
