About this book
Sermons Preached at Brighton is by Frederick William Robertson. The book is dedicated to the congregation worshipping in Trinity Chapel, Brighton, as recollections of sermons preached by their late pastor. The contents list, among others, SERMON I, preached April 28, 1850, on THE TONGUE, with the reference St. James iii. 5, 6.
The text says the third element of guilt lies in the unnaturalness of calumny. Of a cruel word uttered carelessly yesterday or this morning, the text says you cannot arrest its progress. On mercy, the text says that if we are merciful merely that we may ourselves obtain mercy, we shall not have that in-dwelling love of God which is the result and token of His forgiveness. The text says cold hearts are not anxious enough to doubt, and that men who love will have their misgivings at times.
