E. Raymond Hall advanced North American mammalogy through field research, museum leadership, and broad studies of animal distribution. Educated at the University of Kansas and the University of California, Berkeley, he studied with naturalist Joseph Grinnell and later directed the University of Kansas Museum of Natural History.
