Sketches by Seymour is a collection of 90 plates, the introduction says, some marked only with Seymour's name and many inscribed as engravings by H. Wallis from sketches by Seymour. The same introduction says the printed book appears to be a compilation of five smaller volumes and that the importance of the collection is in the engravings.
The text includes a verse dialogue between two servants, Sally and Betty, who talk about their mistresses and a row over tales carried between them, in a spelling that swaps v and w. Other pieces mention Peter, who sits beside Ootanga, the chief's daughter, while sighing for a girl at home; a deed of partnership between Cornelius Crobble and Andrew Mullins; and a piece titled A Rigmarole, which describes an evening seen from a quiet attic.
