About this book
Sowing and Sewing, A Sexagesima Story, is by Charlotte M. Yonge. The preface says perhaps some may read allusions to a sacred Parable underlying this little story, and hopes they will not think it an irreverent mode of applying the lesson. The contents list names chapters called The Sermon, The Working Party, Teacher Amy and The Trousseau, among others.
Jessie says that one's heart just burnt within one when he bade each of them to go home and think what they could do to bring forth fruit for the Master, some thirty, some sixty, some an hundredfold. Grace says she thought they might take turns to go to Miss Manners's missionary working parties, which she never gave in to before. At three o'clock the last stitch was put to the dress made out of Mrs. Drew's cambric, and Miss Lee asked Jessie to carry it home, and Jessie enjoyed the lanes with their flowery banks and the sweet smells of the hay.
