About this book
Speciation in the Brazilian Spiny Rats is by João Moojen and concerns the genus Proechimys, family Echimyidae. The contents list names, among others, Methods and Terminology, Acknowledgments, Paleontology and Speciation. The acknowledgments say approximately two thousand skins and skulls were assembled through the coöperation of the authorities in the various institutions of North America, Brazil and Denmark.
A species entry gives its range as Serra dos Parecís, Mato Grosso, Brazil, and its diagnosis as Ochraceous-Buff, richly lined with blackish, on upper parts. One of the numbered conclusions says insular animals ordinarily are larger than their mainland counterpart. Table 1 gives measurements in millimeters of adults of Proechimys, including length of head and body, length of tail, length of hind foot and greatest length of skull.
