About this book
Stories of Invention, Told by Inventors and their Friends is credited to Edward Everett Hale. The preface says the book closes a series of five volumes, undertaken some years since in the wish to teach boys and girls how to use for themselves the treasures close at hand in the Public Libraries.
In a conversation, Mary says "We have Aladdin's lamp," and Susie answers "And his ring." The Colonel says they have stronger Genii than Aladdin had, and better machinery than Prince Camaralzaman. A speaker named Fergus says he heard someone say that Mr. Corliss had added twenty-seven per cent to the working power of the world by his cut-off. The text says that Watt referred to his books to ascertain by what means he might remedy the defects he found in the model, but they could tell him nothing.
