About this book
A line under the title says "Subversive" is, in essence, a negative term that means simply "against the existent system." A young man named Warren Dickens arrives with a brown paper bag asking for Mrs. Coty, saying he came about the soap. Warren Dickens goes into what is obviously a strictly routine pitch and tells Mr. Coty that practically none of the twenty-five cents spent on a cake of soap goes for soap.
A man who shakes a finger at Tracy says manufacturers have been doing this for a long time and that he imagines the old mail-order houses started it. Flowers says they are not going to stop at razors once under way, and asks about automobiles. Asked whether everything went all right, Mr. Tracy answers that he supposes so and asks that Comrade Zotov be told he is back from Chicago.
